The Essential Ingredient
You want a beautiful floor the lasts for decades.
The essential steps to achieving a good floor that lasts, is the unglamorous and hard work of preparation.
Rush this step or screw it up, and you’ll be faced with floors that warp, twist, buckle, bubble, turn blotchy, mark or a range of other problems.
Get them right and you’ll have a trouble free floor that is a long lasting asset.
The Importance of Preparation
The facts are these:
Moisture is the enemy of a wooden floor. Problems with wooden floors are almost always a moisture problem.
Few countries have such a big range of humidity as New Zealand. We can range from very damp, to completely dry.
We combat this by properly preparing for the floor. Water in a concrete slab will always rise, so we’re not just concerned with the surface, we want to know it’s alright all the way through. We always use vapour barrier.
With the right preparation, the moisture problem can be negated and the floor will last a lifetime.
