Stained American Oak, Herringbone Pattern
On Pilot Bay at Mount Maunganui, Pat & Alan Birley’s floor involved some serious expertise.
“It’s nice to be able to do some good craftsmanship,” says Pete.
Underfloor heating is installed, which meant the timber had to be acclimatised first, to ensure it didn’t change size after it was laid.
The solid oak is in a traditional herringbone pattern and has a brass inlay highlighting the edges. The finish is polyurethane.
The floor is also stained, which is not what Pete would usually recommend because of the complexities that can arise. However in this case the effect is stunning.
